Keep Guns Away From Nuts Round Bumper Sticker I created this sticker after U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot by Jared Loughner. Based on what I have read about Loughner, he is a certified nut. I live in Arizona, the state where the shooting took place. Here in Arizona, gun-nuts pretty much rule the state. We have some of the most lax gun-control laws in the United States. Here in Arizona, you can carry a concealed gun even without a permit. Here in Arizona, you can take your gun into a bar unless the bar has a sign forbidding you to carry gun. Background checks are supposed to be required at gun shops and gun shows, but a recent sting operation revealed that dealers at Arizona gun shows will often sell you a gun even if you say that you doubt you could pass a background check. The sting was all the more amazing because it took place shortly after the much-publicized shooting of Gabrielle Giffords. I believe America has way too many guns. We need a program to take back many of these guns. We also need better controls on who can get guns, and what kinds of guns and accessories that they can get. To allow unstable individuals or individuals with a known history of mental illness to have easy access to semi-automatic weapons is pure madness. It is hard to believe that American politicians are so loathe to introduce or embrace meaningful gun control legislation. There seems to be a widespread belief among politicians that most Americans don't want tougher gun control laws. Or maybe it's more a case of the NRA making a lot of noise whenever anyone suggests we need tougher gun control laws. It is high time we had some politicians who were willing to stand up to the NRA and the gun lobby. We need sensible gun control laws. Maybe if more Americans were willing to stand up and say, "I want sensible gun control laws," we would start to see some progress in this direction. I'm hoping that this sticker will help to spread the word that some Americans are more than ready for new gun control laws. This Wild West mentality is pure insanity! Dan Frazier |
