Not Even I Can Prevent
Narcissism
This sticker was inspired by another sticker we sold.
Actually we didn't sell very many of our "Only YOU can prevent
Narcissism" stickers. Some days we sold a few, and I take all the
credit for those little successes. To whom would you give the credit?
Despite
the poor sales of that other sticker, we wanted to try selling this
alternate version, kind of as a little experiment in psychology, or
sociology, or something.
I think we all have a
little of the narcissist in us (or a lot). Have you ever done a Google
search for your name? Maybe you are one of those unfortunate souls who
can't find your own name on the Internet. Maybe you should try another
search engine. I hear Microsoft has a new search engine. I heard it
could be better. If your name comes up, it is definitely better.
But
maybe nothing comes up on MSN search either. Maybe you don't exist. How can that be!
You do exist. You can prove it. Somebody ate your breakfast, right? What did you have for breakfast? Can
you remember? Think! Oh yeah, now you remember. Today's breakfast could
have been better. Tomorrow you're going to eat a better breakfast. It
will be more memorable anyway.
Then you think you'll search for some
obscure figure who probably has no Internet past. That will make you
feel better. You search for your dear departed grandmother. Rose was so
nice (I hope), but chances are she doesn't exist on the Internet.
But
what if Rose does exist on the Internet? What if there are big, long
articles on the Internet and what if Rose's name is in them? What then?
Will you be sad because Rose is more famous than you are? Don't be sad.
Always remember -- you're nicer than Rose, no matter what the Internet says.
But
I'm nicer than you, and more of a narcissist too.
